Athens,Greece Airdrome. 09/15/1944

Mission No.112 on 9-15-44 was designed to attack and destory a large concentration of German Fokker Trimoter transportation aircraft that were attempting to evacuate German troops from Greece. This mission and a follow up Mission No.119 on 9-24-44 dropped a large amount of Fragmentation (Frag) Bombs on the assembled Trimoter planes destorying a large number to these transport planes and caused numerous casulaties on the German troops and crews. Mission Nos 112 & 119 caused a large number of German Fokker Trimoter aircraft and personnel to be destroyed on the Athen Tokal Airport as the Germans were attempting to evacuate their troops from the country of Greece. Reid Waltman, 758 BomB Squadron Navigator and 459 Bomb Group Webmaster, received the Greek Freedom Medal for his participation in the 9-24-44, m# 119 raid as his second Combat Mission. Frag bombs were used to damage and destroy the German transport planes on the airfield.
