Ludger Bossley
Sgt Ludger Bossley was a 756th BS, assistant engineer/ gunner, who on his second mission 6/16/44, 459th B G Mission # 60 to bomb Vienna, Austria O/R lead by Col Munn, was shot down by German accurate flak fire. His plane caught fire and he was able to bail out and he was immediately captured by German soldiers. He was a POW for almost a year.
His grandson, Shane Zentner, reports that Ludger Bossley is alive and well at age ninety-two. Shane reports that Bossley`s B-24 went down in the present day Slovakia Republic and Peter Kossak, a young Slovakian author/historian has been researching WW II plane crashes like Ludger`s.
Shane states that two other plane crew that he knowsof also bailed out of the crippled plane, Captain Henry Reed and Maurice Bloom. Lt John Magee was the Radar Navigator and according to Peter Kassak, Lt Magee was sitting on his parachute when it was hit by flak fire and the chute caught fire. Shane states his Grandfather remembers Lt Magee and Captain Reed standing on the flight deck and then Captain Reed and Ludger bailed out together from the burning plane through the bomb bay. Lt Magee apparently perished with the plane as his parachute had been rendered useless by the flak burst.
