Edgar Eggert


1st Lt. Edgar Herman Eggert Jr.

July 15, 2004

He was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Orange Grove to Edgar H. and Edith Eggert. He served in World War II as a 1st Lt. in the Army Air Corps as a lead bombardier in 756th Squadron of the 459th Bomb Group. He graduated from Texas A&I University with bachelor and master degrees. He received his law degree from the University of Texas Law School in 1950. He began his law practice in Mathis in July of 1950 and was actively practicing law at the time of his death. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Mathis and was a founding president of the congregation. He was a member of the VFW, the San Patricio County Bar Association, and the Distinguished Flying Cross Society.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Aldon and Clinton Eggert.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Scheel Eggert; one daughter, Carol Dinkins (Bob) Brown of Houston; two sons, Richard Eggert of Mathis, and Mark (Kimberly) Eggert of Mathis; two granddaughters, Ann Dinkins (Ernest) Briggs of Brenham, and Amy Dinkins (Joseph) Allen of Houston; two grandsons, Boyce Eggert of Austin, and Benjamin (Holly) Eggert of Corpus Christi; great grandson, Garrett Briggs; two sisters, Delores (Melvin) Hinze of Robstown, and Mary Louise (Reynold) Veselka of Marfa; sister-in-law, Valeria Eggert of Corpus Christi; and brother-in-law, Edward (Vera) Scheel of Alice.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, in the Dobie Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Lim officiating. Interment followed in Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis.
