Alexander Kiertanis
Marin Independent Journal newspaper of December 20, 1979: Services for Alexander Dominick Kiertanis, a 32-year resident of San Rafael, will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Santa Venetia. Kiertanis, 54, died at home Monday after an illness. A colonel in the Air Force Reserve, Kiertanis flew as a navigator with the 15th Air Force, 459th Bomb Group in Italy during World War II. He was also stationed at the Panama Air Depot. Following his discharge from active service, he worked in a civilian capacity as chief of the operations and management division at Hamilton Air Force Base and received an award for sustained superior work in 1956. Kiertanis retired in 1975. He is survived by his sister, Gertrude Kiertanis of Norwich, Conn.
