Donald Kilgore
Photo of 2nd Lt Donald K Kilgore ASA 0-76119 upon graduation from AAF Pilot` s School, Marfa, Tx in 1943. 1st Lt Donald K Kilgore, pilot in the 758 B S had 15 combat missions, reported in his letter home dated 6/16/44 in a box of letters his son recently found. He flew a total of 35 Combat Sorties ( 50 C0mbat Missions ) from April,1944 through September, 1944 with targets in France, Italy. Yugoslavia, Germany, Austria and Rumania.
His son, Don Kilgore, reports that 1st Lt Donald Kilgore seldom had a flight crew of his own and was used as a utility pilot to fill in as needed. In about May,1944 he lost two crew members on one of his missions.
He named his B-24 J aircraft the " Hard Way ", one of the few 758 B S aircraft to have a name. ( See Photo ).
