Richard Lins
Richard W. Lins, dob 2-15-1922, enlisted in Harrisburg PA on 4-13-1942. He was qualified as a B-24 Navigator, served as a Bombardier and also covered as gunner. He arrived at Giulia Airfield on 4-29-1944 and flew in missions # 30-36. Lt Lins was a Navigator on Lt. McConolog's crew. On May 13, 1944 his plane went down after bombing Castel Maggiore and he became a POW until liberated by Patton at Mooseburg. He was a 2nd Lt when captured and was taken as a POW to Stalag Luft III at Sagan, marched from 1-27-45 to 4-4-45 Nuernberg, then to Mooseburg 4-13-45 until liberated 4-29-45. He escaped during the forced march near the Danube, rejoined POWs and DPs. Discharged 12-13-45 in San Antonio Texas.
