Joe Nenning died Tuesday Oct. 19, 2010 at age 92. He died peacefully, and was surrounded by his family at his Newton, NJ home Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Nenning lived in Fairview before moving to Fredon Township 22 years ago. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran, serving from 1935 to 1945. A member of the 459th Bomb Group, Mr. Nenning flew 50 bombing missions on a B-24 Bomber over Europe. He was the owner/operator of Nenning Embroidery Co. in Fairview before his retirement. A member of the American Legion and VFW in Fairview and Newton, Mr. Nenning was one of the three grand marshals of Newton's 2010 Memorial Day Parade. He was a 53-year member of the Fairview Lions Club; a member of the Knights of Columbus in Newton, where he was honored for his volunteer efforts; and a 60-year member of the Paulinskill Lake Association. Mr. Nenning was a member of Holy Name Society of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Fairview and was a tireless supporter of St. Joseph's R.C. Church and School, which he truly loved.
The son of the late Joseph J. and Rose Tschudin Nenning, Mr. Nenning is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth; his son, Joseph J. Nenning III and his wife, Nora, of Pacifica, Calif.; his daughter, Judith E. Heim, of Fredon; his son, James P. Nenning and his wife, Robin, of Middletown, N.Y.; his sister, Rose Fletcher, of White Plains, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Beth Rigney and her husband, Shawn, Christopher Nenning, Shelly Allen, Matthew Heim, Lauren Nenning and Joseph J. Nenning IV; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Rigney and Laura Rigney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Newton, followed by entombment at St. Joseph's Mausoleum in Newton. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
