Edmond Pizzarello

Name was changed in 1946 to Edmund Petty, from Edmund Pizzarello.


After the war he was stationed in Boca Raton and Anchorage for a little while before separating in 1947 and then re-enlisting as a Master Sergeant. He graduated from N.C.O. Academy in 1956 (rank of Major in inactive reserves) and stayed in the Air Force until retiring in July 1968 as a Chief Master Sergeant.


Edmund Petty

February 1, 1920 - July 18, 2010

Mr. Edmund Petty, a native of Mt. Vernon, New York and a Peninsula resident since 1963 died on Sunday, 18 July 2010 at age 90.

Mr. Petty retired from his military career at Langley Air Force Base on 1 July 1967, as a Chief Master Sergeant after over 26 years service in the Air Force, followed by 18 years employment as a purchasing agent for United Virginia Bank (now SunTrust) in Norfolk.

A graduate of the prestigious Stuyvesant High School in New York City, he served in the 15th Air Force during WWII as a 1st Lt. in the European Theatre of operations from 1943-1944. He completed 50 combat missions as a B-24 Bombardier-Navigator with the 459th Bombardment Group, 759th Squadron (H).

His survivors include: his beloved wife, Josephine Petty; two sons, Richard E. Petty of Columbus, Ohio; Thomas E. Petty of Arlington, Virginia; two daughters, Arlene Koch of Fairview-Heights, Illinois; Jane Petty Lichter of Annandale, Virginia and 7 grandchildren: Angelina, Edmund, Haley, Dianna, Annette, Doriana, and Madelyn. Also surviving is one brother, Emilio Pizzarello, and one sister, Amelia Davanzo, both residing in New York.

He will be remembered for his integrity, sense of duty, devotion to family and enthusiasm for life.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 25, from 1 to 2 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, where a Celebration of Edmund's life will follow at 2 PM. Interment with full military honors will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666
