Donald Strickling




Donald Emerson Strickling, 79, of Sebastian, Florida, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 25, 2001 at Sebastian River Medical Center. Donald was born October 4, 1922, in Ashland, Ohio, the son of James M. and Helen Burns Strickling.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII with the 15th Air Force, 459 Bomb Group, 759 Bomb Squadron in Cerignola, Italy.

After the war, he returned to Ashland and established a masonry construction business, that he operated until his retirement in 1978.

He moved to Sebastian, Florida with his wife, Delores (Dee) in 1978 and together, they shared a wonderful life, filled with love and happiness. He worked closely with his son, Toby, in the restaurant business in Vero Beach, and can be remembered for his free spirit and unique sense of humor. He truly loved life and his favorite expression was "Hot Dog - Always Having Fun," and he did!

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Delores (Dee); one son, Toby Strickling of Vero Beach; two stepsons, David Weyant of Sebastian and Tracy Weyant of Vero Beach. Three grandchildren, Kelly and Courtney Weyant of Ashland, OH and Justin Hofer of Mansfield, OH. Three brothers, Everett (Johanna) and Howard of Ashland. Leonard Baird (Lorraine) of Sandusky, OH, Four sisters, Dorcas (William) Kroll and Patricia (Jerry) Shaw of Ashland, Martha (William) Peach of Avon Park, FL and Ruth (Sam) Chester of Reedsville, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy Rishel and Allene Liston.

He was a member of VFW Post 1067, Ashland, OH.
