Trieste,Italy, at the Notheast end of the Adriatic Sea and close to WWII Yugoslavia, was an important shipping port and oil storage area for the Nazi Axis powers and as such was a prime target as the Germans were beaten back in Yugoslavia and North Italy during the latter part of 1944 and early 1945. Mission No. 194 was designed to destroy the Trieste port facilitise and oil storage tanks to hinder the retreat of the German forces from Yugoslavia and to prevent reinforcements from reaching German lines in North Italy. 459 B G Mission No. 194 to the Trieste, Italy Shipping Port at the head of the Adriatic Sea was aimed at this important shipping facility and oil storage farms area to stop the German retreat from Yugoslavia and prevent reinforcements from reaching the North Italy German Army lines.
