He stated in letters home that his B-24G named "Hot'n Bothered", 42-78295, was his crew`s lucky charm, as it had carried him and his crew home from a number of tough and rough mission in the early days of the war when captain Warren led the entire 459 Bomb Group on many combat missions. Captain Billy Warren was in the 758th Bomb Squadron, probably from March thru July, 1944. On 4/28/44, he was made the 758th B S`s Squadron Operations Officer. Squadron War Diaries indicate in June, 1944 1st Lt Billy S. Warren received his 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster to his Air Medal; on 6/27/44 was promoted to Captain. On 7/10/44, he had competed 30 sotties and finished his missions in late August and probably went to Group Headquaters as S-3 Officer before being returned to the States. He was killed in a training accident at Hondo Air Force Base in 1945. He apparently flew in the B-24 named "Hot'n Bothered"-- The Coffee Tower book lists a plane by that name as a B-24 G assigned to the 756th BS.

This photo shows the 758 Bomb Squadron Ship, named "Jap + Nazi = Jinx" Model H and # 42-52346 at a Crash Site on the grass area of Giulia Field, dated 8-18-44 with Captain Billy Warren reported as pilot in contol. There is a possiblity that Captain Warren is in this picture, inspecting his plane on the grass area. Although this B-24 looks like it made a safe landing with one tire blown and the plane leaning to the left, there is a report that " Jap + Nazi = Jinx " was scrapped after this crash,
Captain Billy S Warren was assigned to the 459th BG 756th Squadron.
