Ernest was born August 23, 1924 in Warwick, Rhode Island. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor L (Mayor) Cave. He is survived by his daughters Linda Jones Palmer of Boulder CO, Gail A. Vasbinder of Cohutta, GA; and his son Ernest Cave, Jr. of Sarasota, FL and 7 grand children and 5 great-grand children. Ernest grew up in Warwick, RI along with 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Ernest was a veteran of WWII. He served in the Army Air Corp, 459 Bomb Group,757 Bombardment Squadron from 1942 to 1945. His overseas duty was flying bomber missions, as an aerial engineer / waist gunner, over Germany from a base in Pulgia, Italy. He also served as a Drill Sergeant in St Petersburg, FL. Ernest moved to Englewood, FL in 1964 and worked in home construction in Englewood, then bridge building all over Florida.
