Fred Cormier

Fred Cormier was was born in Breaux Bridge, LA on 26 Dec 1923 and passed away on 31 Mar 2013.
He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, assigned to 459th BG, 758th BS. He was a T/Sgt flight engineer and turret gunner on the crew of lstLt Roger Menges on aircraft "BTO".
They were shot down (in another plane) on their 50th combat mission, and he was a POW at Stalag Luft IV for 10 months and survived the Baltic Death March.
After the war, Fred worked for the Corps of Engineers for a few years, then went to work for the US Department of Agriculture from which he retired in 1980 as the Parish (county) Executive Director. He served for many years on the Selective Service Board and as a Director of Citizens National Bank. Fred was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener: a true outdoors man. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Alice, a son Glen and a daughter Yvonne along with six grandchildren.
